But thought should write about Keukenhof without a miss!
This year when April hit we thought we should make it to flower fields in Netherlands. So why specifically on April?
The flower gardens is open between last week of march and mid of may every year.
It was on 2007 that we first visited the gardens.Wow, It was superb and beyond words like every first timer would feel.
You get to see so many beautiful flowers,so many colours and you start to feel like you are in a kind of wonderland.
It would be difficult to choose the place to click a pic. One must have a 360 degree rotating camera!
An year later during the same spring we got a fascination to go to flower fields outside the garden. So we packed our bags for May first weekend
Some one had advised us we would be able to get into the fields from the gardens itself which is isnt the case and when we reached we realized it was too late for getting into fields. We could not help for anything except the huge disappointment and ended up seeing the same colours and flowers inside the world"s largest flower garden.
I guess the tulips in the fields were all harvested for the Export :(
Mistakes shouldn't be made more than once! Here is the tip for all those who want to ride to the flower fields.
March would be too early and May would be too late. The perfect time would be April mid- April last week of every year.
Not a pretty pic,but one for the blog :)
Hurray and fast forward one year which was last week.
So this time on a nice springy sunny morning we reached there around 11 hrs and we were all set for cycling :). We knew what we wanted and there we see cycle renting shop very close to the garden entrance. We rented them, each of them costing 8.5 euros for the whole day.(Tandems come at a cost of 18.5 Euros). You get a map for about 1.5 euros of routes for flower fields which by itself is not worthy. We started off rightly in the wrong direction ! So a good tip would be after getting on to your cycle, cross the main road, get into the cycling track on the right side, ride for about 1 km along the track where you will see every one riding until you cross a railway crossing. If you still keep following the avid cyclists you get there. I always believe good things come in loads. Like this day where Lisse welcomed us with lot of beautiful, fantastic and lovely tulip fields in which ever road we took.
I have heard people referring to the place as Keukenhof or Tulip gardens but I did not care for the name of town which is "Lisse" which was my discovery during the trip .LOL.
Don"t miss Lisse when you get a chance to be in Europe during Spring!
Cheers
